Frequently Asked Questons
What is the significance
of the Braj Hills?
Braj area according to our scriptures is also known as "brajcos 84 kos" which consists
of Mathura, Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Nand Gaon, Barsana, Gokul, Mahavan Dauji (UP),
and Tehsil Kama of District Bharatpur (Rajasthan) and some portion of Faridabad
(Haryana). Below are some excerpts from our scriptures and significance of the Braj
Hills:
All the Hills and Mountains of Braj are
Shri Krishna’s Cow-tending Land, His own Manifestation

“Sri Krishna, along with Sri. Balaram, dwelling on the mountains delights the whole
world.”
- Shrimad Bhagwatam Mahapuran (10/35/12)
All mountains of Braj are divine. Brhmaa, becoming a mountain, is staying in Bhanupura.

“Brhmaa, becoming a mountain, is staying in Bhanupura.”
- Varaha and Padma Puran
Who are the people destroying
the Braj Hills?
The so called people are industrialists who have been given liberal leases by the
Rajasthan state government led by Vasundhara Raje. In some areas up to 1000 trucks
of stone per day is being removed. These hills are being demolished by dynamite
gun-powder blasts. This amounts to not only to the destruction of the culture of
Braj but it is also an environmental ramifications. The hills that acted as obstructive
walls against the expanding desertification of Rajasthan are being broken down;
the entire Braj faces the threat of becoming a desert.
Why isn't the Indian
Government doing anything about this cause?
The local, state and central government from time to time has banned the mining
of Braj hills. When pressure is applied by the concerned Brajwaasis and Braj Saints,
the government puts a temporary ban. But as quickly as the ban is in affect as quickly
do the local officials take bribes and the mining continues. The same cycle has
been repeating for the last several years. The government of Rajasthan has misleadingly
and unlawfully issued mining leases in spite of the fact that:
- Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi has strongly recommended to ban the mining
at once.
- Archaeological survey of India, Jaipur and New Delhi has recommended ban of Mining
activities in this Zone
- Jag Mohan Saxena Committee which was formed by Hon'ble High Court, Jaipur has strongly
recommend complete ban of mining activities in Braj area owing to environmental
pollution and threat to animals, religious and spiritual places.
The concerned few have taken the cause to the highest people in the BJP party but
they have not taken the matter seriously. Matter has even been brought in notice
of Smt Soniya Gandhi, Ashok Singhal, Rajnath Singh, K.C.Sudarshan Ji, Lal Krishna
Advani, Member of Parliament of Various parties, by various means. The government
handles these pressures diplomatically and keeps making committees to resolve the
problem but nothing has happened.
Why Hindus in India are
not helping?
Despite over 700 million Hindu in India, they have not taken this destruction seriously
as is the case with many Hindu causes in India. They don’t realize that once the
hills are blasted, they can not be re-raised from the ground. We can raise and re-build
temples but we can not re-raise these hills. Most Hindus in India are occupied in
the economic boom but a handful of concerned led by
Shri Ramesh Baba, from Maan Mandir, Gahavarvan, Barsana (Vrindavan) have
been trying to save the destruction of Braj bhoomi. The primary goal of Ramesh Babaji's
life is to bring back the same dignity and appearance “Swaroop” of Braj bhoomi,
as it was 5000 years ago. A positive movement has started in Delhi. One Member of
Parliament of Bihar, Mr. D.P. Yadav has taken initiative on request of Brajwaasis
to get the hills, the kunds (ponds) and the forests of Braj declared as protected
area. A meeting has been already organized with Ambika Soniji regarding this issue
and she has assured to organize an impartial survey by ASI and tourism department.
Will my effort make any
difference?
As an NRI, do not under estimate your influence in India and on the Indian government.
History has proven that when pressure is applied from the West, the Indian government
listens. You can help put the spotlight on the Indian government and it will have
no choice but to stop the destruction. You never know which soul may be awakened
through your effort. You can never know what "Leela" Lord Krishna has planned. You
may be the vehicle through which Braj may be saved.
